The CCTV coverage in the city is going to get better and wider. As many as 369 CCTVs will come up by July 15 under the ongoing Smart City project. A total of 1,690 CCTVs are expected to be made functional by September-end.

Disclosing this here today, NK Katara, senior consultant with the Faridabad Smart City Limited (FSCL), the body carrying out the project, said the CCTV coverage had been an integral part of the project and the work on it was nearing the final stages. The first lot of 369 cameras would be made operational in July, while the rest of the 1,321 cameras would be made functional by September-end.

He said the CCTV coverage would be controlled and managed by the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which will gather, analyse and process all information and data available within the city using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and disseminate the results to the various departments.

‘’The centre will provide better inter-agency coordination within various administrative bodies to improve the service delivery and governance transparency, improved response time towards citizen complaints, disaster management (early warning and emergency operations) and support to overall administration,’’ he said.

The ICCC located in Sector-20 A will have adaptive traffic control system at 94 locations for which 586 cameras will help to implement the traffic enforcement system. The cameras will facilitate automatic number plate recognition, face recognition system and public announcement system at 154 locations.

Besides all entry and exit points of the city, the CCTVs will be installed at all traffic junctions and public places — bus stands, railway stations, markets and parks. The automatic registration number plate recognition system will help the police send challans to the vehicle owners.

The ICCC will be connected with the police control room and all police stations. Till now the CCTV coverage in the city is maintained by individuals and private organisations that have installed cameras for their security.
