Karnal makes it to Smart City list

KARNAL: Karnal has finally got a berth in the Smart City Mission. The city figured in the new list of 30 smart cities announced by Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi today.

Karnal, June 23

Karnal has finally got a berth in the Smart City Mission. The city figured in the new list of 30 smart cities announced by Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi today.

Now, the city has secured a place in the top 98 smart cities of the country, but it had missed the berth in the first three lists. Karnal would get Rs 1295.81 crore for the development of 720 acres in the city, including Rs 1061.1 crore for the area-based development programme and Rs 149.9 crore for the pan-city solution.

Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Singh Brar, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, OSD to CM Amrinder Singh, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aditya Dahiya, Senior Deputy Mayor Krishan Garg, Deputy Mayor Manoj Wadhwa and others congratulated the residents for this historic moment.

The Mayor said that it was a matter of pride as it would pave the way for speedy development which the city had been waiting for decades. Brar said that it was a result of collective efforts of officials and residents. 

Commissioner Dahiya said that the city would witness integrated and sustainable development. It would also ensure 24x7 power and water supply, hassle-free transportation, technical connectivity of service delivery agencies, e-Governance and public participation in good governance and providing urban rejuvenation in the selected area of the city, he added.
