Rohtak, December 9

Left parties and their allied organisations in the state have come out in support of Jagmati Sangwan, the CPM nominee for the Rohtak Mayor.

At a press conference here on Sunday, Leaders of the CPI, CPM, Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) backed Sangwan’s candidature and said they would work for the defeat of BJP candidates.

State CPI secretary Dariyav Singh Kashyap, state CPM secretary Surender Singh and former state secretary Inderjit Singh, state SUCI (C) secretary Satyawan, and state CPI (ML) incharge Prem Singh Gahlawat were present at the press meet.

They said the municipal bodies of the state, run by representatives of the Congress, BJP and INLD, had become dens of corruption, while the Mayors had been reduced to rubber stamps.

“Tall claims made by successive governments notwithstanding, the municipal bodies have failed to provide even basic amenities such as clean drinking water, safe atmosphere, good roads and functional streetlights,” they said.

Sangwan said that if she was elected, she would ensure the creation of ward sabhas on the pattern of gram sabhas to make residents part of policy-making. “My priority will be decentralise power,” she said.
