The Haryana Lokayukta has issued notice to the Rohtak SP after the complainant in a property fraud case alleged that he had been pressured for a compromise with the accused.

The Lokayukta, Justice Nawal Kishore Agarwal, ordered the issuance of notice to the Rohtak SP after hearing out complainant Vijay Kumar recently. The SP has been directed to file his reply/objections by July 19, the next date of hearing.

The Lokayukta had earlier issued notices to two DSPs and an Inspector in connection with the same case, which pertains to alleged wrongful cancellation of an FIR in a property fraud case.

The role of the said police officers as well as the then Rohtak tehsildar, his reader and a deed writer is under the scanner in the case of property fraud in which a plot was allegedly sold on the basis of a general power of attorney (GPA) given by a woman who was fraudulently shown alive at the time of the sale deed registration. Madhu, a resident of Panipat, was allegedly defrauded by her brother Praveen, a Rohtak-based trader. Praveen had allegedly sold a plot to his wife, Geeta, on the basis of a GPA given by his mother, Bimla Devi. The plot was later sold to Madhu.

Madhu and her husband Vijay later discovered that the said GPA was invalid as Bimla Devi was dead at the time when the plot was sold to Geeta on her GPA. However, Bimla was shown alive at the time of the sale deed registration. Madhu lodged a complaint with the then SP, who marked the matter to the economic cell . Following that, an FIR was lodged against nine persons, including Praveen, his wife Geeta, a nambardar, a deed writer, the then tehsildar and his reader, besides three others .

However, certain police officers, including the Inspector and two DSPs, who probed the matter at different points of time, failed to acknowledge the apparent fraud despite documentary evidence and got the FIR cancelled.

In the meantime, the complainant moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Haryana Lokayukta, CM’s Window, senior police officials and other authorities concerned. Eventually, the case was reopened and Praveen was arrested.

The complainant has maintained that Praveen had been released on bail and the police officials concerned were not taking any further action in the case owing to political pressure.
