Karnal, April 19

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) will file a case in the special environment court, Kurukshetra, against the Piccadilly sugar mill, Bhadson, for allegedly violating the norms of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

“We will file a case against the mill and have prepared all documents in this regard,” said Nirmal Kashyap, regional officer, HSPCB.

A team of the HSPCB on Thursday visited the mill to check the compliance of the NGT directions. “We found that the affluent treatment plant was not working,” said Kashyap.

Earlier, a joint team of the Centre and the state had found that the waste was not being properly managed at the mill, following which the NGT ordered to seal it. The HSPCB had sealed the distillery situated inside the Piccadilly sugar mill on April 2. It had also sealed the mill for the violation of the norms of the NGT in tackling the waste, but they opened it after protests by farmers.
