Three persons were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the National Highway-44 on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Baldev Singh and Harjot Singh, both from Jalandhar, and Manjeet Singh from Nawanshahr. All were in their 30s, said investigating officer Vijay Kumar.

Manjeet and Baldev were relatives, while Harjot was the driver. They were returning home after dropping their relative at the IGI Airport in New Delhi.

Around 6 am, an unidentified vehicle hit their car from behind near Uchani village. As a result of the impact, it crossed the divider and collided with a truck. The impact was so severe that car engine was found at a distance.

Baldev and Harjot died on the spot, while Manjeet was declared dead by doctors at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), the IO said.

A case against the unidentified vehicle driver was registered under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC.
