The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Rohtak, has directed the authorities of the local PGIMS as well as the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Rohtak, to pay a financial compensation of Rs4 lakh to a woman on account of medical expenses, mental agony, harassment and litigation expenses.

In an order passed to this effect, forum president Nagender Singh Kadian and members Ved Pal and Renu Chaudhary have asked the UHS Registrar, PGIMS director, Medical Superintendent, surgery unit head, consultant surgeon and MS student-cum-resident doctor to pay the said amount to the patient.

Patient Meenakshi had approached the forum maintaining that she went to the local PGIMS for the treatment of swelling in her right arm in 2015. A student of MS course performed a surgical procedure, following which she suffered a partial disability.

However, PGIMS doctors and authorities maintained that the MS student-cum-resident doctor was competent to perform the surgical procedure and there was no negligence or intra-operative complication.
