Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday accused the Opposition parties of “disrespecting” people’s mandate by raising doubts on the electronic voting machines (EVMs). He said they were rattled by their “likely defeat” in the Lok Sabha elections.

The firebrand five-time BJP MLA from Ambala Cantonment tweeted, “How can you question the rules after the play starts?”

Vij said opposing to the EVMs amounted to disrespecting people’s mandate. “Rattled by their probable defeat, the Opposition parties are tarnishing the country and its democracy by raising questions on the democratic process. Their demands have no rationale and they are driven by selfish interests,” he said. He asked the Opposition parties how they had won elections held through EVMs at some point of time. —TNS
