Accusing all political parties of ignoring the farming community, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) is planning to unite farmers and labourers ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Haryana. It has prepared a charter of demands and forwarded to all political parties, asking the parties to clear their stand on its demands. It has also made it clear that whichever party agrees to fulfil its demands, the BKU will openly support it.

Speaking to The Tribune, Gurnam Singh Charuni, BKU (Charuni) national president, said, “The declining returns in the agriculture have pushed the peasantry in a financial crisis. So far, no political party is paying attention to the farming community and all are working for their vested interests.”

To a query, he said, “The union has already sent its demand to all parties and we will reveal our plan at the appropriate time.”

The union has already announced that in case no party shows interest and assures to accept its demands, the BKU will introduce its candidates on some Assembly seats or support those who engage in social work.
