With lower turnout than 2014 in Faridabad and Palwal districts on Monday, rural voters beat their urban counterparts by a good margin in overall polling percentage.

As per figures released by the authorities, a drop of about 13 per cent was noticed in the six Assembly segments falling in the Faridabad district compared to the 2014 poll.

The segments of Faridabad, NIT-Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Badkhal, Tigaon and Prithla recorded 54.50 per cent average turnout compared to 67.53 per cent recorded in 2014.

The average turnout of three Assembly segments of Palwal, Hodal and Hathin in Palwal district recorded an average of 69 per cent compared to 78.40 per cent recorded in 2014.

“Low polling percentage shows disenchantment of voters, especially in urban areas. Perhaps they did not find any suitable candidate or party to vote for despite increased awareness campaigns from time to time,” said AK Gaur, political and social commentator. The names of some voters were missing, he said.

Rural voters beat their urban counterparts as far as polling percentage was concerned. The average turnout in urban segments of Faridabad, NIT-Faridabad, Badkhal and Ballabgarh was 63.29 per cent.

It was 79.67 per cent in rural segments of Hathin, Hodal and Prithla. The turnout in the two segments of Tigaon and Palwal, having both urban and rural areas, was recorded at 74.30 per cent.
