Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said his government was committed to providing canal water to every field in the state.

Inspecting several minor canals in the Loharu region of Bhiwani district, he stated that they would ensure that water reached the tail-end of every minor canal.

“Irrigating every agricultural field is the top priority of the government. There are 1,300 tail-ends in the state and we have ensured water availability at 1,200. The remaining tail-ends will get water on the completion of ongoing repairs of minor canals, distributaries and canals soon,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister claimed that the previous state governments had lacked the commitment to ensure water for the tail-ends.

“There are several canals which have been lying dry for between 25 and 30 years, especially along the border with Rajasthan. But now, water has reached these tail-ends and farmers are excited about the prospect of good agricultural produce,” he said.

Khattar said the old water pump sets installed at lift irrigation systems in Bhiwani would be replaced as the government had approved Rs 150 crore for replacement of these.

He said the region had adopted sprinkle system of irrigation, but it had more consumption of water and power than drip irrigation. “The government will soon come up with schemes to promote drip irrigation in the region,” he said.
