Solan, September 13

As many as 1,027 cases of dengue have been reported this monsoon in Solan district.

The district health authorities had requisitioned the help of entomologists from Puducherry as well as those in the state to find out the root cause of the disease informed Dr RK Daroch, Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

He said experts had identified sites where maximum cases of dengue had been detected and such sites included Taksal village, slum areas of Parwanoo and Baddi and the precincts of police lines in Parwanoo.

Though an awareness campaign initiated to prevent the disease has brought productive results but dengue cases continue to pour in.

As many as 824 cases were detected in Parwanoo alone which comprised 324 cases pertaining to neighbouring Haryana. In Baddi, 149 cases have been reported while in Nalagarh the number stood at 42. As many as 12 cases were also detected in Solan Regional Hospital.

Dr Daroch said they were hopeful that the disease would soon be contained as lesser cases were being reported now, vis-a-vis last month.

The outbreak of the disease has exposed the need to step up cleanliness measures in places like closed industries, automobile workshop, etc., which are a breeding ground for the aedes aegypti mosquito.

The health authorities will also re-visit more than 800 people who had been served notice under The Epidemic Disease Act, to ensure compliance in checking various sources which lead to breeding of dengue mosquito. The people who have failed to undertake the due measures will be proceeded against as per law and their cases will be referred to the Assistant Commissioner for imposing the penalty, informed Dr Daroch.
