A two-day meeting of the state executive of the BJP Mahila Morcha began here on Sunday with an objective to mobilise workers in view of the ensuing Lok Sahba elections.

The morning session of the meeting was inaugurated by Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Kangra Lok Sabha MP Shanta Kumar who gave tips to members and office-bearers of the morcha and briefed the role of women in the coming Lok Sabha polls. State BJP Mahila Morcha president Indu Goswami and local MLA Rakesh Pathania welcomed the chief guest before beginning the state executive’s meeting.

Nadda said women had an important role to play in the Indian culture and they could outperform men if more opportunities were given to them in every field. He listed a number of women welfare and uplift schemes launched by the Modi government in the past over four years. He said 17 crore out of total 33 crore bank accounts under the Jandhan Scheme were of women. He exhorted morcha members to apprise the people of pro-people policies and programmes of the Modi government

Shanta Kumar said the Modi government had accorded due honour to women by giving significant ministries of External Affairs and Defence. He said the ambitious schemes launched by the Modi government were directly benefiting the poor section of society. In the second session, former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the increasing participation of women in Indian politics would assist in making the nation strong. He exhorted BJP mahila morcha to come forward to play their significant role in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

On this occasion, state BJP general secretary Kirpal Parmar and newly appointed KCC Bank chairman Rajiv Bhardwaj were also present.
