Shimla, March 23

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Ajay Kumar has stressed the need for introducing forestry as a subject in the school curriculum.

He was presiding over a conference organised at the headquarters of the Forest Department to mark World Forestry Day. The theme for this year is “Forests and Education”. Kumar said it was important to teach the masses about forestry issues.

The participants discussed sustainable development goals and resolved to rope in more people in plantation and forest conservation-related activities. A documentary on the prevention and control of forest fire was also shown.

Earlier, 60 students from five local schools participated in a nature walk organised by the department at the Kufri water catchment. A painting competition and bird-watching were the main highlights. — TNS
