Chamba, August 5

The famous eight-day international Minjar fair of Chamba concluded with much fanfare and religious fervour on Sunday. The concluding ceremony procession started from Akhand Chandi Palace to Manjri Garden on the bank of Ravi to immerse the Minjar (golden tassel) in a traditional manner in the river.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur led the procession. The wife of Chief Minister Sadhna Thakur, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kishan Kapoor, MLAs Pawan Nayyar, Jia Lal, Vikram Jaryal, Rakesh Pathania and Mulkh Raj Premi and other prominent leaders of the district accompanied the Chief Minister in the procession.

They were followed by palanquins of local deities, cultural troupes, police and Home Guard jawans, besides people from different walks of the life.

Earlier, the CM witnessed wrestling bouts at the historic Chowgan and distributed prizes to winners. Wrestler Sukhpal Singh won the bout.

The CM also performed bhoomi pujan of widening and strengthening of the Chamba-Khajjiar road to be completed at a cost of Rs 14.84 crore under the Central Road Fund (CRF). The total length of this road is 19 km.

The CM also inaugurated science lab at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) constructed at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore. Later, in the evening a colourful cultural programme was held at the famous Chaugan. The Chief Minister released a souvenir brought out by the mela organising committee.
