Tourists allowed to go up to Marhi

MANALI: The Kullu administration has opened the Manali-Rohtang road for tourists up to Marhi. Complying with the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the district administration will allow only 1,200 vehicles in a day from Wednesday up to Marhi where adequate arrangements have been made to facilitate the tourist.

The Kullu administration has opened the Manali-Rohtang road for tourists up to Marhi.

Complying with the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the district administration will allow only 1,200 vehicles in a day from Wednesday up to Marhi where adequate arrangements have been made to facilitate the tourist.

Those who are keen to visit Rohtang have to wait for more days as the administration is not yet ready to allow the tourist up to the pass.

Tourists will have to take permits to ply vehicles beyond the Gulaba barrier up to Marhi for which they will have to pay Rs 550.

The authority will charge Rs 500 as permit fee, Rs 50 congestion charges for light vehicle and Rs 100 for heavy vehicles.

The permits can be obtained online.

Hoteliers took a sigh of relief as the Kullu Deputy Commissioner issued an order to open the road up to Marhi because they were waiting for it desperately so that they could attract more tourists.

Gajender Thakur, President of the Hoteliers Association of Kullu-Manali, said, “We are happy that the district administration has allowed tourist vehicles up to Marhi, which will increase their footfall. We urge the government authorities to allow tourists up to Rohtang as soon as possible and make adequate arrangements for it.”

Deputy Commissioner , Kullu, Yunus Khan said, “We will open the pass within 10 days after getting the feasibility report from a joint inspection committee about the parking and toilet facility for tourists.”
