DALHOUSIE: The Chamba police, which is battling with an acute staff shortage, have roped in six volunteers to regulate traffic in the hill station of Dalhousie.

The Chamba police, which is battling with an acute staff shortage, have roped in six volunteers to regulate traffic in the hill station of Dalhousie.

They have been deployed in the key areas, including Subhash chowk, Gandhi chowk and the main bus terminus.

Chamba SP Monika Bhutungru on Sunday said the volunteers were imparted a two-day training at the Police Lines.

The SP said the volunteers had been issued identity cards, reflective jackets, whistles and caps. They would be given Rs 100 per three hours initially.

Welcoming the move, Dalhousie Public School Chairman-cum-MD GS Dhillon and hotelier SP Dhall said the initiate would help make the youth responsible towards their duties, besides solving the major problem of traffic jams in the town.
