Chandigarh, August 13

High drama was witnessed at Palsora in Sector 56 on Monday night when three children and a woman were allegedly thrashed by a neighbour, who is a Home Guards volunteer.

Sources said the children — Manu (17), Anshu (14) and Ginni (15) — were playing near the suspect’s house when he objected to it and started quarrelling with them.

It is alleged that the volunteer, Satnam Singh, thrashed the kids, following which their parents and other local residents gathered at the spot.

Manu was allegedly thrashed and dragged on the road. Anil Kumar, father of Manu and Ginni, alleged that the volunteer was in an inebriated condition when he thrashed the kids. “We called the police. A PCR vehicle came and cops took the volunteer for a medical examination. However, they didn’t get his blood test done to establish whether he was drunk or not,” Kumar said.

Anshu’s father Sushil Kumar said his child was hit near the eye by the volunteer.

A woman was also allegedly thrashed by the volunteer.

The police asked the volunteer and the victims’ parents to visit the Sector 39 police station the next day.

The police said a fight broke out between the suspect and other residents, following which the former was also beaten up. “We have asked both parties to get the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area to establish the sequence of events,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the volunteer was held as a preventive measure and an investigation into the matter has been initiated. — TNS
