Batote, September 10
People of Sana village in Ramban district have set an example for generations to come. Around nine families in this village falling under Batote tehsil of Ramban district have donated 185 kanals to the government to establish a central school in the area.
They have given government this huge chunk of land to establish Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in their village, which will enable their children to get quality education at their doorstep. All nine families have handed over the papers of their land to the village sarpanch who is completing formalities to hand over the land to the government.
“Our area has always remained deprived of a school where children can get quality education. Students either have to move to Batote or elsewhere to take education. When we got an opportunity to have a quality educational institution at our place, people came forward and donated 185 kanals,” Balk Ram, sarpanch of Sana village, said.
Once the school is established, it will benefit residents of Ramban district in general and around 26,000 people of Batote Tehsil in particular.
“People of the village came forward and donated the land for the school. The JNV has already started functioning in a rented accommodation in Batote and once the paperwork is complete, the construction work will start,” said Pardeep Singh, tehsildar, Batote.
