4 days after curfew, 3-hr relaxation in Jammu

After four days of curfew, the administration on Monday gave three-hour relaxation in Jammu. The district administration had clamped curfew in Jammu on Friday in view of the violence in some part after the Pulwama attack.

After reviewing the situation in the city, Jammu District Magistrate Ramesh Kumar relaxed the curfew for three hours in south Jammu. Restrictions continued in other parts of the city.

“Curfew was relaxed in the areas falling under five police stations of south Jammu — Gandhi Nagar (except police post Nehru Park and Digiana), Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony, Trikuta Nagar and Satwari (except the police posts of Belicharana and Gadigarh) from 2 pm to 5 pm on Monday,” said Kumar, maintaining “prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC will remain in force in these areas as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order”.

The situation remained peaceful in the city on Monday. However, some people came out to lodge their protest against the Pulwama attack in some parts of the city, who were later disbursed by the police. The mobile Internet services remained snapped.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu, which had given a call for Jammu bandh with support of other political, social and trade organisations on Friday, squarely blamed the anti-national elements for vitiating the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu province.

Rakesh Gupta, president, CCI, questioned what action the state administration had taken against those who raised anti-national slogans in Jammu.

“I urge the state administration to identify the culprits and put them behind bars without any further delay,” Gupta said at a press conference here.
