Army Chief discusses strategy for counter-terror ops

SRINAGAR:Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday reviewed the prevailing security situation in the Valley and the strategy for the counter-terrorism operations in the hinterland on the second day of his visit to Kashmir.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday reviewed the prevailing security situation in the Valley and the strategy for the counter-terrorism operations in the hinterland on the second day of his visit to Kashmir. He was accompanied by Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh. 

The Army Chief was briefed by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen AK Bhatt at the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar about the overall situation and major operational, informational, logistical and administrative aspects pertaining to the Corps.

An Army spokesman said General Bipin Rawat later visited the Army formations and units deployed in south Kashmir, where he was briefed by the local commanders on the existing security situation and the measures instituted to ensure close coordination with the government agencies in maintaining vigil and peace in the Valley. 

During his interaction with soldiers on ground, the Chief of Army Staff lauded them for their high levels of morale and dedication and further reinforced the need to be prepared to meet the emerging security challenges effectively, the spokesman said.
