CBI files FIR against rail officials for fertiliser theft

NEW DELHI: The CBI has registered a case of misappropriation of fertiliser worth crores against unknown officials of the Railways, which has responsibility to transport manure from the platform to the delivery point.

The CBI has registered a case of misappropriation of fertiliser worth crores against unknown officials of the Railways, which has responsibility to transport manure from the platform to the delivery point.

The agency has registered an FIR against unknown officials of the railway department of Udhampur and Rajesh Oberoi, who is the representative of Manoj Ji and Company (Railways out agency) in Udhampur. The company itself is accused in the FIR. The case was registered on the basis of source information, sources said.

The Railways is the transporting agency for fertilisers manufactured by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited from the Kandala plant in Gujarat to the delivery point in Nowgam, Srinagar, for supply to farmers and fruit growers in the Kashmir valley at a subsidised rate.

The CBI received information that more than 1,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser was not found delivered at the destination during 2017-2018. The misappropriation was allegedly caused by officials of the railway department in conspiracy with private contractors.
