CM reviews Urs facilities at Shah-e-Hamdan shrine

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visited the shrine of the Sufi saint Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdan, at Khankahi Mohalla in the old city today and paid her respects there.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visited the shrine of the Sufi saint Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdan, at Khankahi Mohalla in the old city today and paid her respects there.

An official statement said she reviewed arrangements put in place for the annual Urs, including ‘shab khawani’ and the congregational prayers. She also interacted with devotees and sought their feedback.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has greeted people of the state on the eve of the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani.

In a message of greetings, the Chief Minister said people of Jammu and Kashmir were indebted to Hazrat Shah-e-Hamdan for having guided them to the path of righteousness through education, social and other humanitarian services.

She said people of the state were equally grateful to the Sufi saint for bringing along several trades, handicrafts, cuisine and culture through his disciples, which later became a USP for the state and its people. She hoped the annual Urs brings along prosperity, welfare and amity among the people of the state.

At the Shrine, Mehbooba, who is also the chairperson of the Wakf Board, took stock of the measures being taken for its expansion. She directed immediate taking over of the structures identified under the expansion plan. She directed the fountain in the middle of the shrine compound be made operational and coloured lights be installed for a soothing ambience.

The CM also directed beautification of the Jhelum banks and increasing the water transport to the shrine.

MLC Khursheed Alam, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, Muneer Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Syed Abid Rashid Shah and the Chief Engineers of the Roads and Buildings and Irrigation and Flood Control Departments accompanied the CM during the visit.
