The state Congress paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 73rd birth anniversary and recalled his sacrifices and selfless services to the nation at a meeting of senior party leaders at the PCC headquarters here today.

Paying rich tributes, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir described him as a visionary and the tallest leader of the country, saying that the departed leader sacrificed his life for the nation and always fought against communal and divisive forces bent upon to harm the tradition of brotherhood and communal harmony in the country.

He said: “Inspired by his grandfather Jawahar Lal Nehru and mother Indira Gandhi, Rajiv always tried to reach out to the people at grassroots level in order to address their concerns.” “He always remained committed to uplift the poor and downtrodden sections of the country to ensure every facility to them, especially education and development, at grassroots level,” Mir added.

He said Rajiv Gandhi stood like a rock against the RSS policies and never compromised on his stated position of maintaining unity, brotherhood and communal harmony in the country.
