Govt grants MoS status to mayors of Jammu, Srinagar MCs

JAMMU: The J-K government announced to grant the status of Minister of State (MoS) to the mayors of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Jammu Municipal Corporation.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday announced to grant the status of Minister of State (MoS) to the mayors of two municipal corporations--Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Jammu Municipal Corporation.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the sanction was accorded to the grant of status equivalent to MoS to the mayors of SMC and JMC within their territorial jurisdiction.

“The Hospitality and Protocol Department shall make necessary insertion in the J&K State Warrant of Precedence with the approval of the competent authority,” the order said.

On June 4, the government had increased the honorarium and other facilities to Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councillors of the Municipal Corporations of Jammu and Srinagar.

It was decided that the Mayor would be paid an honorarium of Rs 50,000 per month besides his allowances as a councillor. Similarly, the Deputy Mayor would be paid an honorarium of Rs 25,000 per month besides allowances as a councillor.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor would also be entitled to use the corporation vehicle for official purposes, have a landline connection at office and residence besides the telephone facility subject to a monthly ceiling of Rs 1,000.

They will also be entitled to claim HRA not exceeding Rs 5,000 per month in case they do not have any accommodation within the territorial limits of the corporation.

The corporators of municipal corporations would be paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000 besides a sitting allowance of Rs 1,000 for attending the meeting of the corporation.
