Govt’s move on Rohingyas an eyewash: Panthers Party

Jammu, July 22

The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today raised a question mark over the credibility and intentions of the PDP-BJP coalition government, alleging that the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted by it for deportation of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis has proved to be an “eyewash.”

The party said the recent incidents of purchase of immovable property in and around Jammu and Samba districts besides encroachment of state land by foreign immigrants had posed a demographic threat to Jammu.

“Ever since the GoM was constituted to curb the soaring population of Rohingyas in and around Jammu city and devise a strategy for their eviction, no concrete action had been taken by the group which was set up on the directives of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs,” Harsh Dev Singh, former minister and JKNPP chairman, told reporters here.

He claimed that the Centre was forced to take the step in the wake of demand for illegal migrants’ immediate deportation to their native countries.

“Despite reservation voiced from several quarters that these illegal immigrants could be exploited by the ‘anti-national elements’ active in the Valley and their settlement could lead to demographic change of the Jammu region, the GoM has failed to submit its report to the state government for any stringent action against the foreigners,” he alleged.

He said, “The much-hyped group of four Cabinet ministers, headed by Deputy CM Nirmal Singh, has only proved to be an eyewash to befool the people at large.” He also expressed concern over the procurement of permanent resident certificates, Aadhaar cards and ration cards by the Rohingyas. — TNS
