The Pakistan army on Friday morning resorted to unprovoked heavy firing with small arms and mortar shelling in Krishna Ghati, Mankot, Dhabraj and Balnoi areas of Poonch district and Baba Khori-Kalal area in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
No loss of life or property was reported from Poonch district. Sources said except a few mortar shells that landed in civil areas, the Pakistan army targeted Indian Army’s forward locations at all places.
The firing/ shelling continued between 8 am and 10.30 am in both the districts.
In Baba Khori-Kalal area, a middle-aged couple of Kalal Gudda village had a narrow escape when two 120mm mortar shells landed outside the house of Mangat Ram.
“No loss to life or injury was reported from our area. However, the house of Mangat Ram was partially damaged when two mortar shells landed near his house,” said Ramesh Choudhry, sarpanch of Kalal panchayat.
On Monday, middle-aged man Ram Swaroop was injured in Kalsian village in the wee hours when a stray bullet fired from across the LoC hit his hand.
“The Indian Army has retaliated befittingly to the unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan army with firing of small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Mankot, Krishna Ghati and in Nowshera sector,” said Lt Col Davender Anand, PRO, Defence.
