Mystery shrouds the brutal murder of the vice-principal of Ancillary Medical Training School of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, whose blood-soaked body with severe head injury was found at her residence here this morning.

The woman has been identified as Anita Suri, 58, a resident of Resham Ghar Colony, Jammu.

The police said Anita Suri’s son Rajat, who had gone to Delhi, found his mother’s body when he returned home early this morning.

“Rajat immediately called his neighbours and with their help shifted his mother to GMCH where doctors pronounced her brought dead,” the police said, adding, “A board of doctors has conducted a post-mortem.”

Bakshi Nagar SHO Ashwani Sharma along with a police team rushed to the GMCH to start investigation.

The real cause of the death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem, but the body had signs of severe assault on the head, the police said, adding that the circumstantial evidence confirmed that she was murdered by hitting her on the head with a heavy weapon.

While the police are awaiting the autopsy report, it is believed that some known persons are involved in the murder.

“An FIR under Section 302 of the RPC has been registered and investigation has been started. No theft has taken place and the deceased was reportedly alone at home at the time of the attack,” the police said.

According to the police, the woman was living alone in her home as her daughter is studying outside the state and her son had gone to Delhi.

“We are looking for leads in the sensational murder case. All aspects will be taken into consideration during the investigation into the case,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. He did not, however, rule out the possibility of involvement of some known persons in the murder of the woman.
