Deceased ASHA workers’ kin get relief

JAMMU: Governor Satya Pal Malik handed over ex gratia cheques for Rs 5 lakh each to kin of three deceased ASHA workers working under the National Health Mission at Raj Bhawan here on Monday.

Governor Satya Pal Malik handed over ex gratia cheques for Rs 5 lakh each to kin of three deceased ASHA workers working under the National Health Mission at Raj Bhawan here on Monday.

Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary to Health & Medical Education Department; Bhupinder Kumar, Mission Director, NHM, J&K; and Jitender Mehta, State Health Society official; were present on the occasion.

Following the approval for the social security benefit to the ASHA workers from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the ex gratia was provided to legal heirs of deceased Rajkumari of Kot Bhalwal block in Jammu; Ashiya Bano of Khag block in Budgam; and Nazneena of Verinag block in Anantnag, who had passed away in November.

The Governor lauded the role being played by ASHA workers in delivering healthcare at the grass-roots level and contributing towards the decrease of vital indicators like Infant Mortality Ratio, Total Fertility Rate etc and in providing Home Based New Born Care in villages. — TNS
