Ahead of Diwali, a team of the administration here has been conducting raids and taking samples of raw food materials and eatables.

While checking the sanitation and hygiene conditions at workshops where eatables are being prepared, the team has taken 40 samples of sweets and other eatables from different places during this month.

Today, the team raided a factory of Gurudayal Chandan Food Industries, Rail Majra, in the Balachaur sub-division of the district and seized 10 quintals of desi ghee contained in 44 tins of 15 kg each and in three drums weighing 3.40 kg. The ghee was to be sold under the brand name Surabhi Ghee. The ghee stock was suspected to be adulterated during the preliminary investigation as one of the partners present there couldn’t produce any sale purchase record.

“The team took samples of desi ghee and the entire stock of desi ghee has been sealed and kept in the safe custody of the firm under a surety bond. The account books and relevant documents of the firm have also been taken in custody for further investigation as per the Food Safety Act. The firm was also packing paneer in tins and sample of the same have also been taken. The samples will be sent to a food laboratory for analysis and further action will be taken if the samples failed the quality tests under the Food Safety and Standards Act,” said Manoj Khosla and Sangeeta Sehdev, adding that strict action would be taken against the offenders and nobody would be allowed to play with the health of the public.
