BJP: Rahul should honour promise of loan waiver to state farmers

PHAGWARA: The BJP today asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to honour Congress promise of Rs 90,000 crore loan waiver to farmers of Punjab before waiving the loans of farmers of the three states it won in the Assembly poll recently.

Phagwara, December 14

The BJP today asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to honour Congress promise of Rs 90,000 crore loan waiver to farmers of Punjab before waiving the loans of farmers of the three states it won in the Assembly poll recently. Tarun Chugh, national secretary of the BJP, said the announcements regarding loan waiver in the state made nearly two years ago had not been honoured and now, the Congress “laid a similar trap for farmers of MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh”. “Rahul and the Congress need to start their loan-waiver exercise from Punjab as farmers here were waiting for the loan waiver for the past two years were feeling cheated,” he said.

Chugh said, “Rahul and the Congress seem to be overexcited over the outcome of recent elections but seem to have forgotten that the Congress has lost two states out of the five, including North East where it has a stronghold. Before dreaming to win the 2019 poll, he should understand the reality that his first experiment with Chandra Babu Naidu, one of the constituents of his ‘Mahagathbandhan’ has proved a disaster as the alliance lost badly in Telangana.”

Commenting on the Congress win in MP and Rajasthan, Chugh said even as the BJP accepts the defeat with humility, the Congress had no reason either to be overexcited or arrogant after these results. — OC
