The bodies of a woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, was found in a field at the Shahpur village at Adampur this evening. The police said the woman was unidentifiable as her face might be eaten by some animal after her death. It appears that she died at least four to five days ago.

The face of the child was still intact, the police said, adding that so far no one had come forward to claim the bodies. The bodies have been sent to the local Civil Hospital where it would be kept for 72 hours after which the post-mortem examination will be conducted. While the woman’s body did not bear any sign of injury or assault, the police said at present, they were not treating the case as a murder.

Sukkha Singh, SHO, Adampur police station, said: “The bodies have been found in an area where there are fields on many acres. Even if they shouted for help, no one could have heard. It appears the woman died due to some natural cause or probably after being bitten by an insect. The reason behind the deaths are not known yet.”

“The face of the child is intact. The woman’s face is unidentifiable. It appears that wild animals had attacked her face as she seems to have died days ago. We have informed police stations about the matter. We will wait for claimants for 72 hours after which the autopsy will be conducted,” he said.
