Jalandhar, May 22

The Punjab Border Area Kissan Union today held a protest in front of the BSF Headquarter in Jalandhar to raise their demands to the IG BSF Punjab Frontier.

Farmers from border districts gathered at the BSF Chowk where they staged a dharna for several hours. Later, farmer representatives gave a memorandum of demands to higher authorities.

Union representative Raghbir Singh said, “We are farmers of border districts, who have 21,600 acres of farming land beyond the fence. The BSF is not letting us conduct our farming practices as they don’t open the gate on regular basis. We have given several memorandums and have organised various strikes, yet nothing has been done.”

“We have already served an ultimatum to the government to solve our problems otherwise we will stop cultivating the land. There are so many complications created by the BSF when farmers approach their land for cultivation and the closure of gates is one of them,” he added.
