Crops submerged following breaches

PHAGWARA: Panic gripped several villages following breaches in the distributaries near Palahai and Mannawala villages on Monday.

Panic gripped several villages following breaches in the distributaries near Palahai and Mannawala villages on Monday.

Thousands of acres of crops have been submerged following the breaches.

Between five and 10 feet of the breaches were reported at both places. Subdivisional Magistrate Jyoti Bala, Naib Tehsildar Swapandeep Kaur and District Congress Committee president Joginder Singh Maan, along with Block Congress Committee ( R ) president Daljit Raju, rushed to the sites.

The SDM sought an explanation from SDO, Canal, Surinder Kumar, for Palahai distributary breaches and SDO, Canal, Sahil Sondhi, for Mannawala breaches.

The entire machinery was put in operation to plug the breaches with sand bags and JCB machines.
