Having a gentle demeanour, this young candidate has a PhD degree in zoology in her pocket.

Like making notes for her students, the lecturer has also made a list of the areas will she cover during door-to-door campaign.

Sitting among followers and residents of ward number 1 from where she has been given ticket by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the moment Tamanreet Kaur, 30 started sharing that how from being a lecturer, she is going to shift towards politics, local residents came and expressed her desire to talk to this young entrant into the politics. Kaur while beaming accepted her wish and started listening to her while stopping the conversation for a while with this correspondent.

Every woman living in the area number wanted to share their problems with this lecturer who is now turning herself into being a politician.

Kaur is probably the highly educated Councilor candidate in all the 80 wards of the city. She has done her doctorate degree in entomology and then she became a lecturer in DAV College.

After completing her door to door campaigning at Ashok Nagar, she finally took rest and said that getting a ticket came as an excitement.

“In my family, we had no political background, but after I got married, there was a political inclination and, thus, this time, I thought of getting into politics because for me, my people will be like my students only and I will listen to every problem of theirs and at the same time, will try to solve thesetoo,” she said. Kaur, who has remained a state-level athlete in the college, said she will work dedicatedly towards the benefit of the people.

Gyan Kaur, one of the residents along with other women who were present there, said their blue cards had got cancelled and also the present government was not doing anything for the poor people living there.

Ward number 1 from where Tamanreet Kaur is in the fray has areas like Sant Vihar, Bank Colony, Jhuggis of Zinda pind and Indira Colony, New Sarabha Nagar, Amrit Vihar, Navjyoti Colony and Guru Amar Das extension.

As Kaur was done for today, she was preparing to visit rest of the areas tomorrow. At last, she said, “I just want to convey everyone that they should choose the right leader.”
