Junior engineer held taking bribe of Rs 8,000

JALANDHAR: The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of the PSPCL and his agent for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a junior engineer (JE) of the PSPCL and his agent for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

VB officials of the Jalandhar range said JE Jaswinder Kumar, posted at the PSPCL sub-division, Mukandpur, SBS Nagar, and his accomplice Joga Nand were arrested on the complaint of Pawanjeet Singh Sidhu of Gunachor village in SBS Nagar district.

The complainant approached the VB in which it was mentioned that the JE was demanding Rs 10,000 for the installation of the domestic power connection and the deal was struck for Rs 8,000.

After verifying this information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused JE and his accomplice were arrested on the spot while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station here and further investigations were under progress.

Naib tehsildar held for graft

Jalandhar: A team of the Vigilance Department nabbed a naib tehsildar, posted in Banga, along with an agent while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 17,500 from a property dealer as commission on account of a registered deal.

The accused naib tehsildar was identified as Dharminder Kumar and agent as Gagandeep Singh. The complainant Sohan Singh Kalsi from Phagwara, who is a property dealer, said the naib tehsildar, in connivance with agent Gagandeep, had been demanding 1 per cent commission as bribe for every registry.

Daljinder Singh Dhillon, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar range, said Kalsi lodged a complaint with them that the accused were demanding commission on every registry. “After receiving the complaint from Kalsi, the Vigilance team caught both accused persons,” he said.
