Nawanshahr, March 7

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Nawanshahr has had all women doctors as its office-bearers.

Starting from president Dr Sukhinder K Nagra to patrons, finance secretary, sports secretary, website in charge and the executive members, all 25 officer-bearers of the district chapter of the IMA are women doctors.

The elections to the association are held every year in January and the team works for a year. Secretary Dr Geetanjali Singh said: “We are working on this idea for almost a year. It did not somehow click in 2018. But we got it implemented this time. We chose Dr Nagra as our president unanimously. She nominated all women members in her team.”

She said initially we had apprehensions as to how we would be able to manage everything like organising monthly CMEs, managing funds and maintaining liaison with media.

She said: “ We have already organised a meet of paediatricians. Tomorrow, we are organising Women’s Day function”.

Dr Nagra said: “We have about 115 IMA members in Nawanshahr, women doctors being lesser in number. While forming team, I picked three-four women doctors on key posts and some men too. But then the suggestions came that I should take all women this year.”

“Even men came forward to push the idea and it has worked. My entire team is dedicated and hard working and everyone is taking full initiative for all events,” she added.
