One held in murder case

JALANDHAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Wednesday solved the blind murder case of a moneylender that took place at Panchsheel Avenue in Cantonment locality on Tuesday night.

The Commissionerate of Police on Wednesday solved the blind murder case of a moneylender that took place at Panchsheel Avenue in Cantonment locality on Tuesday night. The police managed to arrest the accused within 12 hours of the incident.

The accused has been identified as Sunny, a resident of Mohalla Number 4 in Cantonment here.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on Tuesday night, Munish Bansal of Mohalla Number-23 complained that the body of his uncle Tarsem Lal Aggarwal, who had retired from the Cantonment Board school, was lying on the road in a mutilated condition.

"On receiving the information, separate teams, led by ADCP-2 Parminder Singh Bhandal, ACP Cantonment Ravinder Pal Singh, ACP (Headquarters) Bimal Kant and others, were formed to trace the accused.

Subsequently, the police teams conducted technical and scientific investigation and arrested the accused from his home, briefed Bhullar.

Bhullar said the victim, Tarsem Lal Aggarwal, was working as a financier after the retirement and he had lent Rs 2.80 lakh on interest to the accused for the treatment of his father three years ago, that had now increased to Rs 5 lakh after he failed to pay the EMIs.

Sunny somehow paid Rs 1.5 lakh to the victim and was paying interest on the the pending amount of Rs 3.50 lakh due to which he was unable to meet the daily needs of his family.

“Therefore, the accused decided to eliminate him and on Tuesday night, when the victim came to his shop on his scooter where he was working, for the EMI, the accused asked him to drop him in Labour Quarter at Sofi Pind and when they reached near Labour Quarters, the accused stabbed the victim 28 times in the back, abdomen and chest.”

Bhullar added that the cops had recovered the knife used in the crime.

A case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Cantonment police station.
