Phagwara, June 17
On a call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctors in Phagwara, Goraya, Phillaur, Noormahal,Nakodar and Banga went on a one-day strike today.
In Phagwara, the doctors assembled at blood bank in the morning. IMA former state president Dr SPS Sooch and IMA Phagwara unit president Dr Rajan in their respective address, condemned the violence against the doctors in different states, including West Bengal.
They said violence in any form, verbal or physical, was not acceptable and the IMA had zero-tolerance approach towards it.
They condemned the way the violence against resident doctors in West Bengal was tackled.
They said it was deplorable, the way the doctors were asked to join duty despite the fact that no action was taken against the culprits.
The Indian Dental Association and Independent Medical Laboratory Professionals also condemned the violence against the junior doctors at NRS Medical College and many such attacks on doctors by unruly relatives of patients in the country.
Striking Doctors wore black badges and held a march, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and to formulate law to discourage any such attacks in future.
The doctors handed over a memorandum to Tehsildar Harkamal Singh Randhawa at Tehsil Complex here today.
Physicians Forum founder president Dr S Mahindra, Dr AS Parhar, GB Singh, Puneet Galhotra, Vijay Sharma, Dr H Mittra, Dr Hema Saroch, Rajeev Gupta, Puneet Narula, Jasjit Virk, Ranjeet Singh Nagpal also appealed to the people to co-operate with the decision of the IMA.
