PHAGWARA: A woman, Kuldip Kaur, mother of a 12-year-old boy and wife of an NRI, was brutally murdered with sharp weapons at her house in New Sukhchain Nagar here this morning.

A woman, Kuldip Kaur, mother of a 12-year-old boy and wife of an NRI, was brutally murdered with sharp weapons at her house in New Sukhchain Nagar here this morning.

Station House Officer, Phagwara (Sadar), Manmohan Singh said the deceased, after sending her son Sahildeep (12) to school, was talking to her sister-in-law Kuldip Kaur over a mobile phone when the latter heard her scream. She rushed to the victim’s house and saw her lying in a pool of blood.

Kuldip was brought to Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition where she was declared brought dead by doctors. The deceased was staying alone in the house as her husband Narinder Singh was residing in Dubai.

The SHO said the mobile phone of the victim was also found missing as miscreants might took away her the same after committing the crime.

The SHO said the police had registered a case under Section 302, IPC, and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Superintendent of Police Manpreet Dhillon said the police was checking CCTV camera footage of nearby areas and tracing the mobile phone of the deceased which gone missing after the crime. The police are working on various angles as the deceased had over 15 injuries inflicted by sharp weapons.

A three-member medical board comprising Varinder Singh, Dheeraj, SS Sethi conducted the post-mortem examination of the deceased this afternoon.

Senior Medical Officer Kamal Kishore said major injury in lungs proved fatal and the woman could not survive due to that. Manjit Singh, brother of the deceased, said gold ornaments, including two gold rings and one gold chain, were also found missing. The victim got married in 1999 and delivered a son eight years after the marriage. Her husband Narinder went to the UAE in 2009 and was planning to come to Phagwara on October 4.

The body had been kept in the mortuary. Cremation would take place only after the arrival of her husband, Manjit said.

Criminal incidents are on the rise in the town. A branch of the PNB was looted on September 3 and the case is not cracked yet.
