To wipe out the drug menace completely from the district, the state government has decided to set up a specialised counseling centre, Model drug De-addiction Centre, at the local Civil Hospital for offering counseling sessions to the treatment of drug abuse exclusively.
DC Varinder Kumar Sharma said the move was aimed at transforming lives of drug dependents through proper counseling.
He said the basic motive of opening the centre was to ensure that the younger generations were saved from falling in prey of the menace.
Sharma said in this counseling centre, special sessions would be organised for drug addicts to come out of the web of drugs.
The Deputy Commissioner said the Health and Family Welfare Department had already transferred Rs 1 lakh for setting up the centre.
Sharma said the district counseling centre would be operated under the supervision of a psychiatrist along with a social worker and a counsellor.
Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga said the counseling would help to get into the roots of the problem and help to heal the problem completely.
He said the centre would have proper facilities, including cabins for counsellors, seating arrangements, adding that special Information, education and communication material would also be published to create awareness about the centre.
Dr Bagga said the centre would be soon made operational at the Model Drug De-addiction Centre at the Civil Hospital.
