Union leader Narinder Kumar said a large-scale convention of the union would be held on Friday at Kapurthala in support of their long pending demands and employees would remain absent from their duties to attend the convention. oc

Service lapse

Phagwara: Landline telephone connections of the Phagwara Sub-Divisional Magistrate (260201) and City Police Station (264840) have been disconnected by the BSNL for the non-payment of the telephone bills. It was learnt that both important landline telephones have been lying dead for the last six months. When contacted newly appointed Phagwara SDM Jyoti Bala on Thursday said that the telephone of her office was lying disconnected before she took over the charge. She said as the department could not get the budget, the BSNL had disconnected the phone. She said she had written to the department for appropriate action to get its budget soon. Meanwhile, Phagwara Superintendent of Police Harwinder Singh Sandhu expressed his ignorance about the disconnection of landline number of the city police station. The general public have been facing problems to communicate with the SDM office and police stateion due to disconnection in telephone connections. oc
