Jalandhar, December 8

In an innovative initiative, aimed at creating awareness among people about AIDS in the city, the Punjab State AIDS Control Society (PSACS) has roped in a professional team to sensitise masses about this bane at the grass-roots level.

The group has been mandated to organise plays/dramas at the village/town level to ensure that maximum number of people were made aware of the disease.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Varinder Kumar Sharma, said the team would perform two street plays in a single day and the awareness drive would start on December 13.

The DC said the team would exhibit the play on the first day at Aman Nagar and Bhargo Camp on December 13; Civil Hospitals of Phillaur and Nakodar on December 14; Dhina and Gadaipur villages on December 15; Bhatnura and Gajipur on December 17; Rurka Kalan and Sarhali on December 18; Talwan and Tehang on December 19; Bhullar and Sangowal on December 20.

He said: “Visuals in the form of drama/play leave an indelible imprint on the minds of people, so the team will help to create the awareness.”

Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, said an elaborate plan had been chalked out for organising the plays/ dramas in such a way that it creates awareness amongst the people in a short span of time.

He said: “The duties of employees of the Health Department have also been fixed with the performing team in order to assist them during the performance.” — TNS
