The police have arrested an accused in a murder case of a Jharkhand labourer Vishram Samad (38). The crime was committed in nearby Nangal Majha village on February 21.

Sandeep Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, and Parminder Singh Bhandal, Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, told newsmen here today that the police arrested Vinod Topan, a resident of Jharkhand, under Sections 302 and 201of the IPC on the charges of murdering his own friend and later throwing the body near trees at a deserted place in the village.

They said the killer threw the victim from the roof and beat him mercilessly to death with bricks after a drunken brawl at nearby Nangal Majha village.

The body of the deceased was found on February 21 lying in a pool of blood in the fields, they said.

They said, Samad, and the accused, had consumed liquor together at a farmer’s house where the victim was employed. But they seemed to have picked up a quarrel in drunken mood after which the accused hit the victim with bricks fatally.

The accused, along with his wife and a child, had fled away after committing the crime. The killer was nabbed from the bus stand of Village Parvej Nagar, PS Fattu Dhinga, when he was trying to board a bus for Jharkhand.
