Projects worth Rs 12 crore were passed in the first Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting held under Mayor Jagdish Raja at the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) on Monday.

While works worth Rs 1 crore were kept pending, those worth Rs 30 lakh were rejected by the MC at the meeting. Unlike unruly scenes witnessed at the MCJ in many past F&CC meets, the conduct of the gathering remained smooth today, with no objections raised to the Mayor’s proposals.

The five-member F&CC Committee of the MC includes Mayor Jagdish Raja, Senior Deputy Mayor Surinder Kaur, Deputy Mayor Harsimranjit Bunty, MC Commssioner Basant Garg, Councillors Gian Chand (Ward number 70) and Gurvinderpal Singh Bunty Neelkanth (Ward number 68).

The Mayor rejected resolutions 79 and 80 at the meeting, while resolutions 57 to 78 as well as resolution 9 were kept pending. Barring these, all agendas were given nod by the F&CC.

The works approved comprise a mixed bag of projects, including the laying of streets and flooring in various areas, re-carpeting of streets, development, repair and maintenance of parks, repair and laying of sewerage lines, provision of sewer pumps and other equipments, tube-wells, water supply, LED lights, funds for the STP, among other projects.

While resolutions 79 and 80 primarily included projects for the purchase of electric equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of streetlights, across 17 wards, Mayor Jagdish Raja rejected these.

Meanwhile, resolutions 57 to 78 of the agenda – all of which are regarding the installation on new LED lights in various areas of the city – have been kept pending by Mayor Jagdish Raja, terming all street lights were being covered under the larger street light project to install LED in the city. Resolution 9 – regarding the laying of concrete and cement streets in the city as well as laying of interlocking tiles – has also been kept pending for the moment.

While the last F&CC meeting had taken place in September 2017, under former Mayor Sunil Jyoti, the meeting today was the first F&CC meet after the Congress took the helms of the Jalandhar MC.

The meeting was held without any untoward incident or obstructions – a change from many earlier F&CC meets of the Jalandhar MC.
