Jalandhar, January 11
The Health and Family Welfare Department, Jalandhar, conducted a workshop on the occasion of National Pulse Polio Day at Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Memorial Nursing School here today.
The workshop was attended by the nodal officer of the district. Addressing the gathering, Civil Surgeon Maninder Minhas said the World Health Organisation had already declared India as a polio-free country and that it had been six years since a case of polio virus was found in the country. Neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan were still struggling to get rid of the polio virus.
This factor, she says, enhances the risk of polio virus travelling to India. She said until the two counties were declared polio free, the pulse polio campaign would continue in the country.
