About time we change the discourse from who gets the major or lesser share of water to who saves the rivers first...this was the talking point of Sadhguru’s Rally for Rivers event in the Tagore Theatre on Friday.

With the Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore and Member of Parliament Kirron Kher present at the event, the grave need to save the rivers in country was highlighted.

Sadhguru, a brilliant orator, was at his usual best invoking applause, laughter and commitment from those present. Rally for Rivers is covering 16 states with Sadhguru himself on the wheels of his plush SUV, traversing the entire distance of some 7,000 km from Kanyakumari to Himalayas, taking along masses with an aim to present the carefully drafted policy to the Central Government to take solid action. “We crossed Andhra Pradesh and Chandrababu Naidu promised to implement the policy, only to be in Telangana where authorities claimed that they had already beaten Andhra Pradesh by putting policies in place.”

No question can unnerve this Padma Vibhushan recipient and he comfortably brushed aside the controversies, labelling it as ‘work of people trying to make a living off controversies’.

Happy lot

As for his followers present, it was a day of bliss. Kewal Arora who made it all the way from Jalandhar found Sadhguru befitting the image he carries. And his daughter Priya too seemed convinced, “The idea of sustainable development is a doable one and the need of the hour.”

Also, amongst the audience was Dr Kanwaldeep Kaur, medical director, Ivy hospitals, with her son Kanav. “Treating patients we are not just looking at medical science, but also holistic ways that Sadhguru’s ‘inner engineering’ imparts,” she shared.

Young brigade  

‘Sounds of Isha’ is the band accompanying Sadhguru. Swami Medya, who has been part of the foundation for last 10 years, came into the folds of Isha as a teenager. “I always looked beyond the surface and it was in Sadhguru that my queries rested,” he says. Says Dhir Dhawaj, an architecture student who became Sadhguru’s follower in his teens, “There is no pain anymore! Things can go wrong, but I know now that I can handle whatever comes my way with way more maturity.”
