KHANNA: An Army jawan died when a military vehicle he was driving collided with a truck near Rajewal village on the Khanna-Samrala road.

An Army jawan died when a military vehicle he was driving collided with a truck near Rajewal village on the Khanna-Samrala road.

The deceased has been identified as Havaldar Ramdas (35), a resident of Rajgarh, near Barnala. As per information, the accident happened in the morning, when a military convoy was returning towards Ambala after an exercise near Sutlej area. When this vehicle of the convey reached near Rajewal village, a stray animal suddenly came in front of it and it collided with a truck coming from the opposite side. The deceased belonged to the 268 Engineer Regiment. The driver of the truck was also injured in the accident and was admitted to the Civil Hospital, where he is under treatment. Information reveals that the deceased was a brave soldier and had killed a terrorist during an encounter near Srinagar and was awarded with an Army medal for this feat. DSP Devinder Singh said no case was registered in this regard and the body was handed over to the Army and family members after the post-mortem.
