Ludhiana, January 17

The police booked three unidentified persons for looting Rs 5.5 lakh from a commuter, who was travelling in an auto-rickshaw, in the wee hours on Tuesday.

In a complaint lodged with the police the victim, identified as Mohammad Hussain, a resident of Nimm Wala Chowk, stated that while he was travelling in an auto-rickshaw at around 4:45 am on Tuesday, three bike-borne miscreants stopped the three-wheeler near Rarhi Mohalla and snatched his bag carrying Rs 5.5 lakh by showing a sharp-edged weapon.

Hussain, who deals in wholesale of hosiery articles, said, “I came from Rajasthan via bus on Tuesday morning. After reaching Ludhiana, I along with other two persons took an auto to reach home. I didn’t get any time to respond as miscreants fled with my bag.”

“Later, I informed the police about the incident and they are looking into the matter. However, the accused are yet to be identified,” he added.

The officer investigating the case, Gurcharan Singh, at Division No. 3 police station said, “A case under Sections 379 B and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified persons.”

“We have started investigation in this regard. The footage of nearby CCTV cameras is also being checked to identify the accused,” he added.
