After preparation of the draft of the new Industrial Policy-2017, the authorities concerned are getting ready to implement it in the coming few days. The policy fixes the target of Rs 5 lakh crore for investment and plans to develop Punjab as one of the most progressive states in the country.

A special meeting with industry representatives was held at Bachat Bahwan here today. Participants were made aware of the upcoming industrial policy in the meet. Their help was also sought in making the policy a success. The meeting was chaired by RK Verma, secretary, Industries and Commerce, Punjab.

Addressing the meeting, Verma said Punjab government had sought suggestions from the industry regarding the new industrial policy. He said 180 suggestions were received from the industry representatives. “The government has included 170 suggestions in the policy so as to get support of the industry in its implementation and success,” he added.

“The government has taken into consideration promises made by the party in its election manifesto while drafting the industrial policy. In the coming five years, Rs 5 lakh crore will be invested in Punjab and efforts will be made to make it one of the best industrial states of the country,” he said.

“Punjab will come in the top five industrial states of the country in the coming three years. It is our target. The foremost requirement to start any business is 24 hours un-interrupted power supply. Industry will get electricity at the rate of Rs 5 per unit,” he added.

He said, “Ludhiana is Manchester of Punjab. Special attention has been paid to the industry in the city so that it flourishes. Development of cycle, automobile, hosiery and garment industry has been a priority. Efforts are being made to provide all facilities related to the trade and industry online. The plan is to develop a single window system at the district level.”

“The government is focusing on skill development of the youth. The plan to set up a skill university in the state has already been announced in the Budget,” he added.

Verma said, “Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, will be reviewing the industrial policy on July 25 to give final touches.”
